What I learned from teaching kids to read blindfolded?

One of the greatest surprises of this journey has been realizing that I am not only teaching children, I am learning from them.

Teaching children to read blindfolded has invited me to let go of certainty, control, and the need to always know how something is supposed to happen. It has taught me to become more present, more encouraging, and more willing to see possibilities beyond my own expectations.

I have learned that children thrive when they feel safe, seen, and celebrated. They are far more open to wonder than adults and often trust their experiences before doubt has a chance to take hold.

I have also learned the importance of encouragement over correction. Rather than telling a child they are wrong, we can celebrate their effort, their awareness, and their willingness to explore. Confidence grows when children are allowed to discover rather than defend.

Perhaps the greatest lesson has been that every child has their own timing. There is no need to force, compare, or rush the process. Learning unfolds naturally when curiosity is greater than fear.

This experience has also invited me to look at my own life differently. How often do we limit ourselves because we believe something is impossible? How often do we stop exploring because we fear being wrong?

Children remind us that wonder is a superpower.

Whether one views blindfold reading as expanding perception, deepening intuition, consciously seeing or simply developing new ways of learning, the deeper lesson remains the same: human potential is far greater than we often imagine.

Most importantly, I have learned that teaching is not about creating dependence. It is about empowering others to trust themselves.

The children are not only learning to see in new ways, they are teaching the adults around them to do the same.

And perhaps that is the greatest gift of all.
